Bettina Madini
Painting color as a living force—where intuition, light, and inner landscapes meet
Bio
Bettina Madini is a contemporary painter and designer whose work explores color as a living force—intuitive, expressive, and deeply connected to inner and outer landscapes. Shaped by her early life in Berlin during a time of division, her work carries an enduring drive toward freedom, joy, and movement beyond constraint.
Each painting begins with color. Rather than following fixed plans or representational goals, Bettina allows color relationships to lead, forming visual symphonies that unfold through curiosity and sensation. Her process invites the unseen—memory, emotion, and dream—into the work, resulting in paintings that move fluidly between abstraction, florals, and visionary imagery.
Her artistic language is informed by a lineage of expressive color and spiritual abstraction, while continuing to evolve through ongoing study. Since 2021, she has studied with Ronnie Landfield at the Art Students League of New York, deepening her exploration of color, scale, and painterly presence.
Working primarily in acrylic, Bettina engages the medium’s immediacy and versatility as a dynamic field for color exploration. Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections internationally, offering an invitation to feel color beyond interpretation—where freedom, wonder, and presence meet.
‘Each painting embodies a crossroads on a map of light and sound. The impulse touches me so lightly, I joyfully lift my brush and compose the symphony.’

Bettina was born in Berlin, Germany, a city that was separated by a wall. JFK referred to Berlin as "“I know of no town, no city, that has been besieged for 18 years that still lives with the vitality and the force, and the hope and the determination of the city of West Berlin. Freedom is indivisible, and when one man is enslaved, all are not free." The thrive for freedom, inspiration and joy and to never give up has deeply influenced Bettina's spirit and expression in the world. "We are only lost when we give up. Would an infinite being ever give up?"
Bettina travels internationally with her art, classes and workshops.
Statement
I was born in Berlin, Germany, and spent time in the corporate world before fully committing to my artistic path. I laid the groundwork for this transition in Luxembourg in 1992, when I joined the Conservatory of Music and, shortly after, the École d’Art Contemporain.
I studied Fine Art in Luxembourg at the École d’Art Contemporain with Jean-Marc Tosello, and later in New York City at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Design, where I studied with Susan Shatter, Sharon Sprung, Henry Finkelstein, and Wolf Kahn. These experiences shaped my ongoing exploration of expressive color and light.
My work is rooted in an intuitive process, with a focus on color as both structure and emotional language. Over time, this exploration has led me across different painting media, which I experience as distinct creative universes. Today, I work primarily in acrylic, engaging its immediacy and versatility as a dynamic field for color.
Since 2021, I have been studying with Ronnie Landfield at the Art Students League of New York, continuing to deepen my approach to scale, composition, and painterly presence.
My paintings have been exhibited in juried shows, art fairs, and galleries, and are held in private and corporate collections internationally. Alongside my painting practice, I create wearable art, translating my visual language into hand-painted silk designs.
